TBF has had some interesting recaptures of fish that have traveled thousands of miles and some that have even made migrations all the way across the Atlantic. Another exciting recapture was just recently reported to TBF and this time for a white marlin that made a journey all the way from the U.S. to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This white was tagged back in August of 2010 by angler Victoria Roberts and Captain Jimmie Roberts off of Ocean City, Maryland. More than two and half years later this same white marlin was recaptured more than 1,800 miles from where it was tagged on a seamount off the Mid-Atlantic Ridge roughly 700 miles southwest of the Azores. This recapture goes to show how amazing billfish are and there is still so much to learn about their migrations. Thanks to Blanca Garcia of the Instituto Español de Oceanografia for helping report this recapture.
