This is another impressive recapture of a swordfish tagged off of south Florida. Back in June 2008, Captain Scott Walker tagged and released this swordfish while fishing aboard the “Tailwalker”. At the time it was tagged the fish was estimated at just 50 inches in length and 40 pounds. Close to five years and 800 miles later the same fish was recaptured and had grown to nearly 300 pounds, almost eight times its weight when first tagged! This rate of growth is consistent with the average growth rate for swordfish of about 50 pounds a year. The swordfish was recaptured by Captain Tim Sabaka of the F/V “Bluefin” off of North Carolina. Thank you Capt. Scott Walker, Capt. Sabaka, James Lynch and Kenneth Keene for reporting your catches.
